Sure. Every website needs a server to host it. If you have a website then you have a server hosting you.
The new FOSTA/SESTA laws make tech companies liable for the content its users post. If you advertise sex work, this is seen as sex trafficking in the US, and a lot of companies are pre-emptively shutting down sex workers online as a result.
Any sex worker whose website has US ties risks being shut down. We’ve seen this with companies like Escort Design closing sex workers websites.
I started up this server so consensual sex workers could continue to earn an income online safely. I also saw an opportunity to fundraise money for some of our unfunding sex workers orgs.
To see if your website could use Red Cloud, just contact me with your website and I’ll check it out.
Have a look at who’s your host at the moment. If they are a US-based company or have server in the US, you *might* be under risk of FOSTA/SESTA and Red Cloud might be an option for you.
If they’re not US-based, you should be fine. But if you still want to see Red Cloud help those in need, you can donate a years hosting to a sex worker who can’t afford it themselves.
There are two ways to go about moving your existing Wordpress site to Red Cloud.
The first option is letting me do it for you. To do that i'll need a few details to get all the files, photos and other bits & pieces. I'll need to know who currently hosts your website (not your domain name, although it could be the same people) and the username & password to log in and get everything to move. If you wish, you can set up a temporary login with your current host to retain your anonymity.
The second option, and one you might prefer if you already have a web developer is for me to create your new account on Red Cloud and provide your web developer those details. They'll then be able to move the website over for you.
Sure do – wrote a 19-page article on the topic. In it I covered Twitter, payment methods, Wordpress, domains, language and content, emails, Skype, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, storage (google drive), VPNs, encrypted messaging.
Send me a message if you want a copy.
Once start-up costs are met, all profits will go straight back into the sex working community. I plan to donate all the money to an unfunded sex working organisation. If you’d like more information about this organisation, please contact me. I also provide financial reports yearly that are sent out to Red Cloud customers.
Sex workers who operate by means of a personal website and whose client base is situated in Australia. Since the Red Cloud server is in Australia, Google won’t punish you for slower loading times.
However, if your client base is mostly in the northern hemisphere I would recommend hosting with redumbrella.ch so you get the most value for your buck.
Yes. When I was negotiating for the server I had to agree to one condition to get the deal at the rate I wanted it. Unfortunately, Red Cloud is unable to host pornographic material. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this might cause you.
Unfortunately, yes. Wix and Squarespace are not FOSTA/SESTA proof and they purposefully make it so you can’t backup or migrate your website with anyone but them. I cannot migrate your website for you.
I would recommend backing up the content of your website and also taking screenshots. Then I think you should sit back and relax. If FOSTA/SESTA is going to get your website down, you’ve done all that you’ve can. Wix is starting to take measure to shut down workers website and there's an article that explains that here.
If you want to do something more, your next step would be to build a website using an interface like Wordpress. There’s heaps online about how you can do this with free templates. You could also pay to have your website replicated (or a new website made) and then hosting with Red Cloud. If you need help locating a web designer, get in contact and I’ll help you out.
Yes, you're right. However, with Red Cloud I don't ask for any personal information. All I ask for is a way to contact you and the details for your current hosting to migrate your website. Even if Australian surveillance were to target me, and hand over that information to US surveillance, the only information they're going to get is what's already publicly available with your website.
However, for complete privacy I would recommend paying with bitcoin or a disposable credit card not in your name.
I’m guessing you’re hosting with a huge hosting company. If I had stacks and stacks of servers at my workplace waiting to be occupied, then I too would have a similar rate. Unfortunately, for a privately-operated server such as Red Cloud, it’s impossible and unsustainable to have anything cheaper than $200 a year.
No. That’s not how it works. Australia’s infrastructure is poor, but this refers to home connection not server speed. When Google makes its SEO speed assessment, it’s looking at your server, not a home connection. It’s a thing called “ping” time, which is how long it takes you to send info to and from a server. If the server is in Australia it’s less than 100ms, if it’s overseas it’s at least triple that. That is what google looks at when it is judging loading speeds.
If you need more convincing I can show you a screenshot of your server speed before and after Red Cloud.
Red Cloud will keep your email to contact you for payment. It will also keep a record of your web address. If you pay into the bank account through credit card or direct bank transfer, there will be a record of this with the bank that only I will access and that’s something I cannot help. For the utmost anonymity I recommend paying with bitcoin.
To register is simple. Just leave your details now and we'll be in touch regarding how to quickly migrate your website to our service – that’s it!
